Naturally, our geeky community members love to talk about books. Books are many things to us: escape from the stress of the real world, educational material, or fiction that helps us cope with the reality of our current socio-political climate.
Our club will read approximately one book per month (some may take more or less time, depending on page count and subject matter) and members will suggest and select the book for the following month. We show preference to works inexpensive or free to promote accessibility, while understanding that authors deserve to be paid for their work.
Ready to go? Click here to join the book club on Goodreads. This is a woman-centered space, but all are respectfully welcome.
Members of The Geek Initiative Book Club are interested in exploring genres and authors they may not normally read. Is your shelf space or Kindle dominated by work written by a bunch of dead white guys? We have the remedy. Let’s go for a broader view.
We’ll read:
- Young adult fiction
- Non-fiction about inspiring figures
- Graphic novels
- Classic fiction
- Poetry and plays
- And much more.
Once the discussion is complete, one volunteer will write a thoughtful piece on the book, which we’ll publish and link to right here.
This month, we’ll read “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood. Amazon Prime members can borrow this one for free.
