If you’ve ever wished you could drink with Data or get trashed with a tribble, you’re in luck. The Federation of Beer has teamed up with the Tin Man Brewing Co. in Evansville, IN to produce “Klingon Warnog,” the first in a series of Star Trek-themed alcoholic beverages released in the United States.

Under license by CBS Consumer Products, Klingon Warnog will be available in select bars and liquor stores in Indiana and Washington State starting Monday, July 28, 2014.

Beer me up, Scotty! *

Klingon Warnog is a Roggen Dunkelweiss (Danish Rye Beer) that promises to be, “…heartly [sic] enough to be called a Klingon Warnog.” While lacking the distinct clear color of the infamous beverage that once exposed a false emperor, the Federation’s version of Warnog, “…incorporates rye malt into a moders Dunkelweizen grain bill, creating a flavor profile that is both familiar and unique.”

Although Klingon Warnog is the first to debut in the U.S., The Federation of Beer previously released Vulcan Ale in 2013, shortly after the premier of Star Trek Into Darkness. Vulcan Ale is an Irish Red style ale brewed by Harvest Moon Brewing Co. in Belt, MT. Unfortunately, it is exclusively sold in Canada at this time.

Partying Frequencies Are Now Open

In celebration Klingon Warnog’s release, The Federation of Beer is sponsoring a series of launch parties under the title “First Contact: Klingon Warnog” over the next year. The festivities officially kick off July 26 with launch parties in Evansville and Indianapolis, the latter featuring live music from Five Year Mission, a Star Trek-themed band dedicated to writing a song for every episode of the original series.

To Boldly Drink Where No One Has Drank Beforewarnog2

As a fan of both beer and nerdy things, I’m glad to see what appears to a growing trend in geek-themed beer collaborations over the last few years. Earlier this year, Ommegang Brewery released the third in a series of Game of Thrones-themed beers in partnership with HBO and quite a few other breweries have been surfacing with geeky brews of their own.

I’m also glad to see that most of these beers are being produced by smaller nano- and microbreweries that provide unique flavors and recipes; The Federation’s own Klingon Warnog features an aroma that is, “…predominantly mild banana and clove produced by the German wheat yeast, supported by subtle sweet malt character from the use of Munich malt.”

I don’t know about you, but I think that sounds like something worth raising a glass and yelling IwlIj jachjaj!” to.
