Music is the spice of life. And so, I think, a musician’s cocktail should include a little spice as well. While taking a strings methods class for my Master’s Degree, the instructor was teaching us about various techniques used by string players. Upon mentioning the flying up-bow spiccato I mused to her that it sounded like the name of a cocktail….so she challenged me to create one. Challenge accepted! Please drink responsibly!

Cocktail Ingredients:
1 measure Pepper Vodka
1 measure Crème de Cacao (clear)
1 measure heavy cream
½ measure Grand Marnier

(1 measure = 1 jigger = 1 1/2 ounces)

Shake with ice and strain into a martini glass.

Garnishes:
I’ve used three different garnishes with this cocktail so I’ve included them all here from the simplest to complex.

Garnish 1:
Sprinkle chili powder and/or shaved chocolate on top

Garnish 2:
Mix chili powder, cocoa powder and a pinch of sugar. Rim the glass using an orange slice and dip into the mixture.

Garnish 3:
Using a double boiler melt about 1 oz. of chocolate and dip one or two small chili peppers (like a thai chili pepper) and skewer it on a toothpick.
